UP CLOSE & PERSONAL – MY DAILY FITNESS JOURNAL

MY PERSONAL FITNESS JOURNAL – DAY 4
By Jennifer Gendron, PTS/FIS

Today was the first big test as it was a day off for March break.  It was meant to be a day of fitness with my boys on the slopes but the weather did not cooperate with that so it turned in to a movie day instead!  If you are looking for something to do with the kiddos on the March break, I highly recommend the movie “Eddie the Eagle” – a great movie!  Heading out for the day I had to do a little planning to make sure I followed the clean eating plan.

Breakfast was easy as we were home – I used some leftover boiled eggs from earlier in the week to make a “breakfast scramble” combined with spinach, red peppers, tomatoes, salsa and goat cheese – delicious!

Since I was heading out to the movies with a crew of teenagers, I figured we had better make a stop for lunch.  Healthy eating on the run can be a big challenge but we have found one spot we all love that is healthy too.  If you have not had a chance to check it out yet, the Pita Pit is definitely worth a stop. With a huge array of healthy items to choose from, it is the perfect place for a good lunch. Today’s choice was the south west chicken pita filled with bean sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, grilled veggies and feta cheese – yum!  If you want to give Pita Pit a try, visit our Facebook page to take advantage of our “Like & Share” contest for your chance to win a $25 Pita Pit Gift Card.

The next stop of the day was the movies with all the temptations of popcorn and candy but I had gone prepared!  I stashed some almonds, pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries and a bottle of water in my purse – that solved the mid-movie cravings.  Planning ahead for situations like this and having healthy snacks on hand is the best way to stick to your routine and avoid temptations and times when “falling off the wagon” seems unavoidable.

Supper was a rush due to our outing so sweet potatoes topped with leftover chili and greek yogurt along with a fresh salad were on the menu.

The day ended with a kick-ass circuit workout followed by core strength with this awesome lady!  Great to get to be a participant and a circuit class is one of my favs – a great combination of cardio and strength that gets your metabolism revved up – thanks Deb!

Now on to the next challenge – a weekend hockey road trip – that will definitely take some planning!
