10-Year Anniversary Reflections

By Jennifer Gendron, Health & Wellness Coach

As we come in to the month of August, we celebrate 10-Years in business in our amazing community for Lifestyles! In many ways, it seems like yesterday that I was searching for a place to hold fitness classes after spending a year teaching out of my basement and trying to work around my busy family. In other ways, that seems like a lifetime ago as so many things have changed and evolved over the years. I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to own and grow a small business in the town that I have always called home and am so grateful for the amazing support this community has shown me over the last 10 years.

We first opened our doors on Centennial Road in August of 2008 with a small one-room fitness studio. We began initially with classes only at this location but over time, grew to include a small gym with a circuit of equipment. Classes were definitely the main focus back in those days and we had a membership of around 80 people. With the addition of the circuit, membership eventually grew to over 200. With limited parking and minimal space to expand, we began looking for a new place to locate the business and in 2011, we were very fortunate to be able to move in to a new complex opening on William Bell Drive. This location was built to our specifications and we were able to grow and expand from this new rented space. We eventually took on a second section in this building and over the years we spent there, we grew our membership to over 400 members. It was a great location and we were very comfortable there for almost 6 years.

As years went on, my interests grew from focusing solely on fitness to taking a more holistic approach to wellness and my dream to one day own a location that would be a full-service wellness centre housing additional complimentary services began to take shape. While I had the dream, what I lacked was the finances and, after pricing out what it would cost to build a suitable location, I soon realized that it was a dream that was bigger than I could handle. I had all but given up on this part of the story when the “for sale” sign went up in front of the Hampton Legion in early 2017. While I had been in the Legion many times over the years, I had never been in the upper or lower levels. I did not think it would be a location that would work for my business but, on the urging of a friend, I decided to go and have a look. The minute I walked through that building, I knew it was the place we needed to be! I am not sure how or why I knew and, after talking to many people after we got moved in, I learned that many people thought I was more than a bit nuts when I first took on this project, but I had a vision and a feeling that this would be the perfect home for our new wellness centre and so, in April of 2017, the purchase of the building closed and massive renovations began. With an impossibly short timeline and a limited budget but an incredible contractor and a hardworking team of family, friends and staff around us, we pulled off the renovations and move in just two and a half short months and opened our doors at 1032 Main Street on June 30th, 2017. Since opening at the new location, we have expanded our services to include the many complimentary partners that I envisioned making Lifestyles a full-service wellness centre, and we have now found our “forever home”.

With an incredible staff and an amazing membership of just under 600 members, we have much to celebrate as we reach the 10-Year anniversary mark! We look forward to celebrating this month with all of our members and friends with many contests, special events and promotions but most of all, at this time, I want to send out my personal thanks and gratitude to each and every member and former member who has made use of our facilities over the years. We would not be where we are today without the support of each and every one of you and it means the world to be part of such an incredibly supportive and amazing community. I look forward to continuing to serve this community for many, many years to come and can’t wait to see what the next chapter has in store for us. Watching our members and clients achieve their own personal successes and goals for living a healthy lifestyle is the most rewarding gift that anyone could ask for and I know just how truly blessed I am to be able to work in this incredible industry surrounded by so many wonderful people. So, as we enter this next year of business, remember, it’s more than fitness, it’s YOUR lifestyle!
